MINUTES of a meeting of the Signatories of the Appeal published in the Press on October 2nd, 1937, held on October 7th, 1937 at 3 p.m. at 3, Lombard Street, E.0.3.

On the proposal of Sir Harold Fawcus, seconded by Dame Rachel Crowdy, Sir George Macdonogh was elected Chairman of the meeting. On the proposal of Mr. S.H. Dixon it was agreed that Mr. Gull should act as secretary of the meeting.

The following suggestions which had been circulated to Signatories of the Appeal prior to the meeting by the Secretary of the China Association were adopted, the word "patronage" in suggestion (2) being given the meaning, which it was intended to have when included, somewhat loosely, in the suggestion, i.e. that of acting as Patrons of the Fund.

(1) that both committees should include representatives of the China

Association, of the Conference of British Missionary Societies and of the Red Cross Society, so that they should throughout act as a single organization administering a single fund.

(2) that the purposes of the General Committee should be mainly

those of patronage, principles of administration and general oversight of the Executive Committee.

(3) that in giving effect to the decisions of the Executive

Committee activities should be departmentalized so as to utilize in as practical and effective a manner as possible the special experience and aptitudes possessed by each of the three bodies composing our organization.

It was proposed by the Chairman and agreed that the Archbishops of Canterbury, York and Westminster, the President of the Free Church Council and the Chief Rabbi should be asked to be Patrons of the Fund.
